We are proud to support many fantastic activities for our students based on their yearly curriculum. Providing guest speakers as well as off-site trips really help students get excited about learning. Here are some of the many programs we help provide.

Artist in Residence

The PTA is proud to support, in conjunction with the NBCS Administration, A yearly program to allow local artists to create a special piece of art with students.  Some things you may see on campus:   the pillars at the front crosswalk, or the mural by the gymnasium doors.

Authors Week

Hosted by the NBCS library and funded by the PTA, an author is chosen to speak with students about their books, their process, and often allow the purchasing of signed copies of their recent book.

Young Authors Awards

In conjunction with The Friends of the Whipple Free Library, one student from each class is picked as the Young Author of the year and is presented with a specially picked book during the final Community Meeting of the school year.

Scholarship

Every year the PTA supports a lucky New Boston senior with a $1,000 scholarship to a student looking into an an education related field. More information can be found here

Yearbooks

Our parent volunteer supports a group of 5th and 6th grade students and put together an amazing book of memories from the year. Find out more about yearbooks here.

Eyes on Owls

A wonderful presentation about the native NH owls, including a visit with a very special guest! 

Wildlife Encounters

3rd grade classes get to enjoy a visit from assorted wild animals such as a snake, frog,  hedgehog, wallaby, skink, armadillo, and opossum to name a few!

Native American Storyteller

3rd graders see artifacts and hear stories about Native American Tribes.

Mad Science of Maine - Mischievous Magnets

3rd graders learn and get hands-on experience with magnets.

NH Historical Society -
On the Abenaki

Using original and contemporary artifacts, 4th grade students learn about the culture of the Abenaki people during the Woodland period. 



NH Historical Society -
NH Hands at Work

4th graders work with maps, primary source readings, and touchable artifacts, students explore the transition from farm to factory life in NH.



Historic New England -
A Revolution in Dorchester

This 5th grade event provides a window into the Revolutionary War era through the journal of Colonel Samuel Pierce. Everything from daily life on his farm to major events like the Boston Massacre, the Boston Tea Party, and the fortification of Dorchester Heights.

Mad Science of Maine - Matter of Fact

5th grade students explore molecules and the forces that hold atoms together. They see the dramatic differences between physical and chemical changes, as they mix up a batch of their very own Mad Science Putty.


NH Historical Society -
Redcoats and Rebels

A choose-your-own-adventure style game! 5th grade students immerse themselves in a key event leading up to the American Revolution, the 1772 Pine Tree Riot in Weare, NH. Each student plays a character and have to choose sides in the journey from colony to country.




Pyramids Pharaohs

6th graders enjoy a live presentation complete with tables full of artifacts from ancient times. 

Chariot of the Sun

This one-man show exposes students to the heroes, gods, goddesses, and monsters of Greek mythology with a combination of poetry, masks, mime, and skillful audience participation to bring classic Greek tales to life. A dynamic presentation that offers an accessible and fun introduction to the stories of ancient Greece.
